The Masterwork Chorus
The Masterwork Chorus is widely known and acclaimed for its quality in performing major classical choral works, as well as lesser known, but equally beautiful works. Founded in 1955 in Morris County, the chorus has performed in venues throughout New Jersey as well as in Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. The auditioned chorus is dedicated to enriching and supporting the cultural life of the community through professional-level choral performances, promoting music education and engaging in community outreach programs. Its Summer Sing program attracts singers from a wide area each June and July to sing through choral masterworks, each week led by a different area conductor. Twice yearly, singers present short concerts to senior citizens in assisted living, as well as patients in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. Although best known for its annual performances of Handel's Messiah, Masterwork Chorus has performed many other classical works such as Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Brahms’ German Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, and Bach’s Mass in B minor. Its Camerata Chamber Choir performs both with the larger chorus as well as gives its own concerts in a wide range of repertoire from early choral polyphony to adaptations of current pop and jazz.
